I'm trying to reinstall DVDInfo Pro, and after I do everything in the wizard it goes to start the program. When it does, I get this message (and this is the exact way it is written):

Aspi & SPTI init failed For SPTI, your login needs administrator rights.
    Resetting interface bits.
    [OK]

I have no idea what this means. I am the administrator account for my laptop, and I don't have the program loaded on my desktop and my laptop (I know programs check that now, and I don't use my desktop for my DVD backup stuff, it's too slow).

When I click the OK button the program closes or crashes, I'm not sure which. Everytime I try to load the program the same thing happens. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times, and rebooted half a dozen times too, still no go.

Any ideas on what that means or what is wrong? Thanks for any advice/help.

Here's info from the DVDdecrypter page of this type of error. If this doesn't work then contact someone from vendor.

    Problem:
I'm getting a 'You need Administrative privileges to use SPTI' error when I start the program as a restricted user.

    Answer:
SPTI is available to Administrators only. Microsoft designed it like this, don't blame me!

Here is a quick workaround for those people wanting to stick with SPTI:

    1. Log in as an Administrator
    2. Click 'Start' -> 'Run'
    3. Type 'secpol.msc' and hit OK
    4. Expand 'Local Policies'
    5. Click 'Security Options'
    6. Change 'Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only' from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled'
    7. Close the 'Local Security Settings' window
    8. Log on as your restricted user and try again.

Note: Only tested on XP and Server 2003. Wording may differ on other operating systems.

Well, strangely enough it ended up working. I did the workaround as described, no problem doing so. DVDInfoPro loaded and worked fine, making me very pleased once more with the level of competancy around this place.

But then when I went and put a DVD into the drive, it (the drive) for some reason had been re-classed as a CD-ROM drive, and would not read DVDs, couldn't even tell what they were.

Tried downloading updated drivers, troubleshooting, everything. Finally went back and undid the workaround, figuring it would shut down DVDInfoPro again. But, amazingly enough, no such problem! So far my DVDInfoPro is still working find and my DVD drive is once again an actual DVD drive.

Score one for the good guys.....
