Now everyone can stop whining about Window$. I've downloaded Solaris since 7 or 8 but I've never gotten around to loading it up. I've finally decided to bite the bullet and give it a go after I get the DVD downloaded and burned. Have you tried it?

solaris is NOT open source by any means --

unless you are just running a web server -- not going to be a lot of help for you , or StarOffice 7

  7. What about Solaris vs Linux or *BSD. They are all free and unix based. What is Solaris's advantages over linux. Also is there a Solaris live-cd out, I'd like to give that a try first before I install. It sounds interesting though!

My mistake, they're opening it. The full open version will be released in Q2 under OpenSolaris.

    Apparently I don't speak SunŽ.

I downloaded the 5 parts of the DVD ISO as well as the 'DVD Assembly Instructions' which read as follows...

    Re-Assembly Instructions for sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso.iso

Required component files and md5 check sums:
    ===========================================
    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso-a.zip 1acfdb660195315c4601a847bbe74e91
    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso-b.zip 14675308b655a02a14bd81791dd59a16
    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso-c.zip 4aacf120a4ad13edacb768730acf49ba
    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso-d.zip 8ab774b27cf4c2c04281c7cfd0b8bb72
    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso-e.zip da9f502e9fa3857876b3ea245cc355c8

Gather and unzip all required component files.

Then concatentate all unzipped files into one
    single file named sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso.iso.

The combined file should have an md5sum value of:

    sol-10-GA-x86-dvd-iso.iso d7b6f773519c1caaafb57100d428a0e3

    REQUIREMENTS:

Operating System and utility support of large files (>2GB).

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've already unzipped all the files into one folder, but I don't know how I concatenate them.

    TIA

in a command window (with windows)

    copy file1+file2+file3+file4+file5 newfile /B

or you could have used winrar or winzip

I think I got the syntax correct, but it's only yielding a 598MB file for 5 400MB+ files. How would I do it with WinZip or WinRAR?

are they all in the same directory ? did name the location correctly ?

easier is to put all files in root .. then you dont have to worry about location ....

did you forget the "/b" ?

copy /b file1+file2........file5 newfile /b (last b optional - adds end charactor needed for some files)

    see here http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/copy.mspx
