    an .AVI with the pixels size of 640x272 which equals 2.35:1.

    to get it to look right on a normal tv (not widescreen) needs to be resized to 720x306(720/2.35) and then add borders of 480-306/2=87 for ntsc and 576-306/2=135

    am I anywhere near correct?

    Check with fitcd....it can calculate the video size and borders.
