  1. I have just installed a new pioneer dvr-108 drive and for some reason it is not reading or writing disks, I have installed nero 6. I have checked in device manager and it says the device is working properly. Can someone please help me?

    thanks....

Not reading any disks or just DVD disks? Does it work with CDs?

Has it ever worked? Have you tried it in a different machine? I would suggest you take it back to where you bought it and tell them it is faulty.

  5. Had the same problem with Pioneer AO8/108 and Nero. The problem turned out to be that my version of Nero did not include drivers for AO8 / 108 but after installing Nero updates, the drive works perfectly.

It isn't likely to be a problem with Nero as it won't even read disks. Assuming it has been installed correctly (does the bios show it on boot up?) and Windows is detecting it (which you say it is) it must be faulty.

Did you install it in addition to another CD/DVD drive? Did you set the jumpers correctly (although normally if they are set wrong a drive either isn't seen or the machine won't boot)? Could you install it instead of any original drive (making sure you set and connect everything exactly the same) and see if it will work then.

  7. I have a similar problem. My new 108 will not burn DVDR-RW disks, but it will play them, and burn CDR-RW.

I have the latest Nero, Nero sees my drive and confirms that the disk in the drive is a DVDRRW. But when I try to burn anything it tells me to replace the disk with a CDR-RW. Un My Computer under devices it shows my DVDRRW, but as soon as I place a DVDR-RW in the drive the listing
changes it to a CD Device. I am going to check my ASPI drivers and ASPI Layer today. Also someone told me about a SPTI file, I have no idea what that is. I am going to remove the leads today switch off, switch on,
see what it it does, then switch off and reconnect the drive and see if my
    machine finds it.

Also I sent an e-mail to Pioneer from their website. Try CD Freaks they have a forum for Pioneer drives only.

If you are using the Start Smart with Nero 6, be sure on the opening menu to make sure you are telling it the media you are working with. ie DVD, CD. If you are trying to work with a DVD disk and have it set to CD it will give all the problems you are describing. The same thing when you open Nero burning rom directly. You must first tell it the type media you want and then select the type of burn you want, ie DVD Video, DVD Rom etc. Once you have done this it will default to the media until you make a change.

  9. I have sent the dvd writer back to the store where I bought it from as it was damaged on one of the corners and something rattles inside when it is moved about, I think it might be the read/write arm that is damaged or broken.

  10. On Nero Smart I did tell it it was DVD. On Nero burning Rom I told it
it was a DVD, but when it loaded the image to burn it only came up with
the CD option which could not be amended.
