Hi
I am very new to this capturing business. I read through the Capture Guide given in doom9.org. But I seem to be getting stuck right in the first step.
I would like to capture a normal VHS as AVI. I have a JVC HR-V510, which is connected to my Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 (editted from prevoius 250) via Composite Video Cable and audio source is connected directly behind my onboard sound card.
After I open VirtuaDub, and select "Capture AVI...", I get a error message such as below: -
And then the screen is black and nothing happens.
I tried something else then. I had the program which was included with the TV Tuner Card open on the background which played the video all right and then opened VirtuaDub so then I got a different window when I clicked on "Capture AVI..." It looked like below: -
While the WinTV program was still running I clicked on OK and then I got below: -
Not having any other option, I clicked on OK, so I got this
And then I got below: -
![]()
(And then I started to "PANIC")
Anyway, I decided to look into compression for I-dont-know-what reason and I discovered this: -
More info: - I have installed huffyuv 2.1.1.
VirtuaDub Version: - VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1
OS: - Win XP
Now the question: - How do I get picture in VirtuaDub to capture?

Aaarrrgh!
Do you know why not?
I was actually waiting for someone to tell me this. I hear that there is some sort of VFU and WDM Warpper which can make it work.
Any body else who has any idea?
What else can I use to capture my VHS as AVI. I have just tried FlyCap and Virtual VCR... but I dont get any pic. Any idea? -
VirtualDub in particular only uses the old Video For Windows (VFW) interface. This is a low level interface for getting raw video. It doesn't have provisions for capturing an MPEG stream.
In theory of course, someone could write a VFW driver that captures the MPEG stream and converts it to "raw" video on the fly. I've heard rumors that something like this exists but never seen it.
There are only a few applications that can capture from hardware MPEG encoders. I use Hauppauge's WinTV2000 most of the time. I also use WinTVCap, a command line program that doesn't decode the MPEG for display while it's capturing. That reduces the CPU requirement to almost zero. Others that I know of are BeyondTV and -- what's it called -- Sage TV?
Just did a search. Check out this page:
http://www.shspvr.com/pvr_drv-apps.html
In the VFW section there's are "VFW MPEG Drivers". I wonder if those might do the trick? -
Thanks junkmalle...
I have figured out another thread where in you guys have discussed some tweaking methods to make PVR 150 work as good as it can.
And I also realized that it is an MPEG encoder card .. or has some chip or whatever.. but I got the point.
I guess I will now move on to tweaking my card.Thank you very much.
