Honestly, if it's as simple as reversing a polarity on a DVD-ROM, then someone should be able to figure a way to create a program specifically for that drive and set up their computer to run XBOX games.
The disks are also in xfat format Billy G has worked pretty hard to keep this from happening since he also made windows

Oh, I'm sure he made a new format and setup, but I don't think it'll be too long before programming pirates figure a way to integrate the technology with a regular PC. Again, it's made with most parts a PC is made out of anyway.

And again, I still think PS2 needs to go modular. Even Game Cube should go modular, but honestly, they aren't that difficult to look at anyway. Nintendo has always done a good job at allowing repair shops be able to quickly open and fix a problem. The big problem is they change the friggin screwdriver tips and screws every time they make a new design. You have to buy a new tool set each time Nintendo makes another generation game machine.

I hear ya its always possible but the evil galactic empire keeps a tight grip on stuff just like no one has even been able to do a direct copy of a psone game and play it without some sort of modification. Bleem might have done but they were bankrupted by sony (The psone has been around since 94, but I will never say never )

The emulators might play a couple of games but they dont play most games for the xbox (not to say that they wont in the future)

I really think that if they could start playing most xbox games on your computer the people that do it will quickly disappear along with their emulator

But this is all just my opinion though

This is why I see many people start with Homebrew and then later integrate into some platform. That way they have a stand for a period of time, then lay their software to as many people as possible. When they get shut down, it seems their software circulates more frequently and widely. I know people that have Bleem still and it works well for them. I don't get that crap, but I know it'll happen sometime soon. When everything gets converted back to 1's & 0's, you can easily decode the material and find a way to emulate it. I see the only way possible to keep people from being able to decrypt your material is to find a way to not use logic patterns for computing. And that's something that's currently not fathomable to do.

Wow! Has it been that long already????

And back then it was only known as the PLAYSTATION console

That was what hurt NINTENDO. They were killing SEGA and then when they decided NOT to use SONY's CDROM add on for the SUPER NINTENDO to go for the N64 they gave SONY free reign to conquer the market. They already had a working game system all they needed was a casing for it and some software to run it solo. Then the rest is history. Sure NINTENDO is still kicking but not the same way - especially after MICROSOFT took over SEGA's spot and is doing VERY WELL with the XBOX.

Nintendo broke off the deal because Sony was going to get all the profits on the CD ROM games.

Nintendo underestimated the CD-ROMS gaming capabilities. And made a horrible deal with Sony.

then Nintendo pulled out of the deal and tried to make a deal with Phillips an American company.

Loyalty matters much more in japanese business. And this move upset many Japanese companies.

THat coupled with production costs of CD ROM games VS. cartridge games really hurt Nintendo.

Sidenote: Nintendo couldn't use the name Ultra 64 because Konami had rigths to the word Ultra as it pertains to video games.

If you remember the original Metal Gear was published by Ultra.

Ultra was acompany that Konami was forced to create so thet they could publish more than 5 games per year for the NES.

Nintendo only allowed each publisher to make 5 games per year.

So when Nintendo tried to named their system the Ultra 64 Konami said, "No dice".

It was Nintendo's own fault for forcing Konami to make the company Ultra.

    Hello,

doppletwo - Good points. I also seem to remember NINTENDO complaining about the loading time of cd games back then

Yeah .loading times was their big arguement.

I am a Nintendo fanboy, but I am not hardcore.(I have played plenty of Halo 2. and GTA Vice City.)

But even I can see Nintendo Fugged up.

Yes, It's blatently obvious Nintendo had quite a few SNAFU's, but they don't make the same mistake twice and they don't make them too often. They are still right about cartridge games loading faster. However, as stated previously, the cost per game made on disc is far cheaper than making a CART. In fact Game Cube has a add-on you can purchase that allows you to connect & play GameBoy games through it. Anything up through GBA. Rumor has it that they will probably have a second generation add-on that will allow everything up through DS. I'm working on a Nintendo Unit that will be able to play NES, SNES, & N64 games, but that project has been on hold for while. No time to work on it. I'm wondering when Nintendo will take the hint and make their own. With flash technology out there, it probably won't be long before Nintendo goes CART again, and uses them to their advantage. If cost of Flash tech. drops immensely, then there's nothing to stop them from pushing back to the way they had initially started creating their games and doing it inexpensively.

I saw an adapter made by a third party company that cionnected to the N64 and allowed the user to play SNES, NESand N64 games

    I saw it on IGN

I am not sure where it was released or who made it though.
