My liteon 5001 has come to this point where I can only use dvd+rw to record as dvd+r usually fails to be finalized whereas dvd+rw works without finalizing. The problem I am having is that dvd+rw is able to be recorded like 2-3 times before becoming defective, i.e. the resulting disc has read errors when ripping on pc dvd-rom. Is there any way to solve this issue? Perhaps someone had the same problem? I am particularly interested to know if I can solve the dvd+r issue.

I have a LiteOn 5001 based player and I'm able to reuse my +RWs quite a lot. I buy Memorex in Canada which are Ricoh/Ritek made. I believe they are the same as the Maxell +RWs. I generally can reuse them around six times (rough estimate since I don't keep track), afterwhich, I need to do a full format on a computer and then they'll be good for another six or so times.
If you're having problems with both R/RW, perhaps your laser is dying. Luckily, the LiteOns use regular IDE LiteOn DVD writers.
