If you are working with dvd-compliant files it shouldn't take very long to author, especially with your PC. I suspect you're working with non-compliant files and your authoring app is transcoding to DVD-compliance. If this is the case you can't get around the time unless you start with compliant video files.

Read more about DVD-compliant files here:

I am pretty sure that Pinnacle Studio 9 re-encodes everything, compliant mpegs and all.

For authoring, which is the creation of vobs in a structure that DVD players understand, I use TMPGenc DVD Author. Two hours of mpeg compliant video will take 15-22minutes. TDA is an authoring app and is not intended for video editing. You can cut, trim mpegs (it is frame accurate for mpeg) insert chapter points, add menus and then create a video_ts folder. This where your vobs will be.

Read the reviews for TDA that are on this site. It is solid and easy to use.

With p4 3.0 converting for example DV-AVI to MPEG2 8000 CBR (the standard in Studio) takes about 1 hour for 1 hour of video. That's an average.

I forgot to mention that TDA will convert the vobs in a video_ts folder back into mpegs.

If you are looking for an application that will take a Studio 9 project and do the authoring then I do not think there is such a software application.

You may need to use a different editing software app all together. Ulead Video Studio 8 is one that can do most everything Pinnacle Studio 9 can but it does NOT re-encode compliant mpegs.

In light of the posts after mine, it seems that you could be suffering from an overenthusiastic authoring app encoding everything no matter what.

Try Ulead DVD Movie Factory. You can set the option to have it not reencode compliant files. There are other apps that allow this too, but this one happens to work well for me. It's fast and simple
