  1. I haved built a PC for a friend and am having a problem that I have not encoutered before with any other PC I have built.

I have installed mpeg2 codec, the DVD drive is a Sony DWD22a, graphics card is an Nvidea ge-force MX4000.

Windows media player 9 is installed as is direct X 9

I can play ripped DVD's no problem so I know that the playback codec is working ok. But if I insert an original disc and try to play it I get the error message

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occured with digital copy protection.

    Any help please.

have you tried a different player, such as media player classics (freeware) and powerdvd.

in my opinion, windows media player is crap. go with media player classic.

  4. Well its not my PC and my friend bought an oem drive with no software so I am limited to getting it working with WMP or free software.

Media player classic plays the discs no problem so thanks for that waheed.

Dont really understand why WMP9 will not play the discs though, never had this problem before with any other PC's

Baldrick I have installed stinkys mpeg2 codec and dscaler5 but if it plays ripped discs without copy protection and media player classic plays the discs ok, then it cant be a codec issue can it. Seems to be an issue with WMP itself.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, slap my wrists.

  5. I read this before posting, no help really.

C00D1163: A problem occurred with digital copyright protection
A troubleshooter is available to help you solve this problem. To troubleshoot the problem, see the "DVD Troubleshooter" topic in Windows Help.

    Notes

To play DVDs, you must have a DVD-ROM drive and a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. If you do not have a compatible DVD decoder installed, DVD-related commands, options, and controls do not appear in the Player and you cannot play DVDs. By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder. For more information about DVD decoders, see Windows Help.
DVD playback is only available on select versions of Windows.

  7. Cant get into that forum mats, and if I try to register it asks for my member name and password.

The only thing I can think of is that my friend installed the interactual player that comes bundled on a lot of DVD's. I had the C drive backed up to a ghost image and I have restored it so there should be no remnance of the player left.

  8. weve had a few problems with pcs at work, coming in with dvd players that dont seem to work, and most of the time it was the windows updates, that were for DRM,on windows update, seems they sent wmp9,and 10 wonky.
might be that, might not be.! worth a shot to see if its installed.

  9. I restored the PC to a clean image with no DVD software or codecs on it. Installed powerDVD and WMP9. No copyright warnings now, but WMP9 just locks up and crashes when it tries to play an original disc (still plays ripped backups ok). PowerDVD tries to play the disc but it is all pixellated with green splodges and then just closes down.

Have put media player classic back on as that plays all discs ok, but I dont understand why powerDVD or WMP9 does not work.
