  1. Hi,
I have some MiniDV tapes; I am going to use IMovie to capture the video then transport them to a PC for editing. I was told that they need to be as a DV AVI. I looked through some tutorials but none have told me how to get DV AVI format. I am not a Mac user , mosly PC; Is there someplace I can look to learn how I can do this in IMovie? Thanks so much! 2. Once you have the movie in iMovie, click Share from the File menu and select QuickTime, then from the Compress Movie For drop down, select Expert Settings and click the Share button. A save dialog now opens and you can select Movie to AVI.

If you cannot see these options then it maybe because you have not got QuickTime Pro as this gives you more options.

Why are you capturing on Mac and editing on PC if you don't mind me asking?

    Hope this helps.

  3. Its a long story so here it goes: I am a coach for a FIRST Jr Robotics team and I offered to create a demo video about the program so that coaches from around the world could use it. The MiniDV tapes were sent to me by the WI Jr Robotics state tournament director to use in the video. My problem is that I don't own a video camera. But I am a grad student at WMU and I can use the A/V lab. But the mac is the only machine in there that has the VCR for MiniDVs hooked to it.

I also have hours and hours of video (the rest are AVI) coming in from all over the country and I don't want to have to sit in the lab for that many hours. If I edit them on my PC at home, I can sit in my PJ's while I am working on it *whew*

I am going to try and see if they will let me hook the MiniDV VCR to my laptop and capture it straight onto there but just in case I will know how to do it with IMovie Thanks so much!! Carla
