  1. Hi,

I just converted a video, and the one converted to DivX4 (fast motion) is 310 MB while the one converted to DivX5 is 365 MB. What advantages does the 5 have over 4?

EDIT: In Virtual Dub Mod it says DivX 4, but when I ID'ed it with GSpot, it says Divx3. *shrug*

Quality. Depending on the source material, v5 would create a higher quality file. But the ultimate judge is you, if you are happy with v4, that is all that matters.

DIV4 is the fourCC for DivX 3.11alpha fast motion. So yes it is DivX3 and not 4. The fourCC for DivX4 is DIVX by the way.

For DivX3 I would suggest doing an SBC encode via NanDub or use ffdshow for encoding.

DivX 5 has numerous advantages. It is fully ASP MPEG-4 compliant, supports bframes, supports MPEG quant matrix, plus probably some other things. That said it does tend to blur out detail more than DivX3 did.

You could always ditch both and use XviD.
