  1. I have been encoding VOB files using the mencoder DIVX preset, but am having trouble playing these files on a Philips DivX certified player.

It starts playing fine on the player.. then the video rapidly speeds up and gets out of synch with the audio.. then just craps out after say 10 secs..

The video plays fine on my mac through QT or VLC...

Is there another setting that I should use? maybe the XVID one?

    Any help would be appreciated.

i have an old Hiteker with Sigma chipset which works fine using the following options with mencoder DivX (or XviD):

    - high quality
    - b-frames
    - 4 motion vectors (DivX)
    - trellis
    - Scaling Method --> fast bilinear, bilinear or bicubic (didn't try the other ones)
    - ME function --> SAD, RD (didn't try the other ones, DivX)

as for the audio settings i use mp3/CBR as all other options like VBR, ABR or ac3 don't work well with my standalone

  3. Also, some players prefer streams created with DivX ffmpeg, others with DivX mencoder.

  4. I Think that "Divx certified" changes from player to player. I own a Samsung divx certified player that can only read xivdffmpeg file even if on the manual specs is written that the player can read any Mpeg4 simple profile track. I don't know how but I discovered with virtual dub (PC friend gave his assistance) that the preload value of audio track is a quite important variable for my player, but I don't know how to change dozens of tv show avi files to let the player read them since I don't own a PC Win to use virtual dub.
