A friend phoned tonight and informed me he had just received a gift of 25 Laser +R x8 media. He looked at the media ID and discovered they were in fact TYG02's.
Has anyone bought Laser blanks and found them to be TY's.

If they were DVD+R the MID should be YUDEN000T02, not TYG02. Besides, if you check what Laser media has been previously (Princo, Infosmart, AML and other crap) you can bet that they're fake TY.

jsl, you are indeed correct, I thought he said G02 when he did say T02.
Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.
Media ID: YUDEN 000-T02-000
He believes they were purchased from Dick Smiths $28.50 for a tub of 25.
There is nothing to suggest they are fakes, looks genuine to me. -
BTY Dick Smith and Tandy are the same company in Australia, so the disks at Tandy are probably the same disks.

I think laser are just a cheap brand that use the fake TYG02 media code.

Actually Princo Dvd's are very good - I've only had 1 or 2 failures in a 50 pack.
Laser Dvd are absolute shite - over 35 bad discs in one pack!
I have had crap with other Laser products too, usb hubs, Flash card readers, mice (meese?), etc.|

It doesn't really matter what they have done in the past. The Laser discs my friend has with the TY's media code, do seem to be absolutely genuine. If you are not interested in the subject and being an Aussie, why show the rest of the world you are simply an idiot with nothing positive to add. To those members from other countries reading this post, I'm sure you can appreciate there are village idiots everywhere. Do not form the opinion that all Aussie's are fools as some of the above responses would suggest, perhaps they are responses from 10 year olds.
As far as the responses from Canada, my post was addressed to Aussie members, I have no idea what is happening in Canada. -
Is there a serial number printed on the bottom side of the disc, in the central ring? (have to look at the bottom or else the S/N is backwords).
It should be something like TG001112 (taken from a Plextor branded disc). If there is no s/n, or the s/n does not have TG in it, they are most likely fakes. I have some blank silver top TY from rima.com (US) s/n TG001125.
Edit: As far as location (country), the s/n convention should not be different, since all TY media is made in Japan. There are posts over at
According to a post by OC Freak over at http://club.cdfreaks.com - Laser media (-R) is FAKE.

Confirmed, it is fake:
