Scratched Laserdisc - HELP!

Hi,

I have a Laserdisc I must have put away without realizing I had scratched it! Naturally, when I was in the middle of capturing it, I found the 4min trouble spot. Does ANYONE have any ideas how to fix a scratched laserdisc? This is way OOP and I really hate to toss it without capturing it.

Otherwise, visit eBay and find a replacement. Once you redub it you can always go back to eBay.

LaserDisc's have a very thick protective layer, so it's possible to minimize the scratch to make it play again. I have used "Brasso" liquid brass polish sold at hardware stores to do this. It MUST be "Brasso" brand and some other type (about $4.50 at our local Ace Hardware). Use a soft cloth, not a paper towel, buff some on the scratch, let dry, remove with another soft cloth. You may have to repeat this several time depending on how deep the damage is. This method also works on DVD's CD's etc. although on DVD's you can't repeat it more than a few times.

Seriously, you might be surprised at what you can find on e-Bay. What Laserdic are you trying to restore? Just in case a good polishing doesn't fix it.

Really, they don't make laserdiscs anymore? It is OOP on VHS and not released on DVD. I've been to Ebay already.

Quite a number of the old non abrasive car polishes used to work, not just Brasso. My bud used to swear by Simonize. Check the old Google groups. Also when you spread it on, don't do a circular motion, but spread it out from the center in straight strokes. It seems to work better that way. Perhaps the DVD repair cloths work the same way. I used to use those for discs that Disc Doctor couldn't repair as the scratches were too deep. Fellowes among others work for those scratched discs...

You could even use toothpaste..... Works wonders on scratched watch faces.

Note: I haven't personally tried it on disc but it's the same concept.

I've done toothpaste on CDs. It works, sort of.
