  1. Hi, I have browsed through the tutorials and forums, but I still couldn't find the answer to this. I have an avi and a ssa file, and I want to put them together. I just want the product as an avi file that can then be played on a divx/dvd player. If I do this with VobSub, it would not work because you would need VobSub to play it, and my dvd player doesn't support that. I know that there is a way for me to do this if I were to make a vcd (frameserve), but I don't want to jeapardize the quality. So is there a way for me to do put permanent subtitles on an avi file without using VobSub or ffdShow?

  3. I did that before, but if I were to do that, I must select "Full Processing Mode" which would take forever, and I don't want to frameserve it. If I selected direct stream copy, that filter option would be disabled. Is there any other way?

You must use full processing and reconvert the avi divx, be sure to choose file->compression divx also.

If you were to use textsub in AVISynth then you could set the video to fast recompress.

  6. Thanks a lot, I got it to work.

I also have this mkv file, and when I opened it with virtualdubmod, it says something about a variable bitrate. When I tried extracting the sound files, the progress windows flashed for like a second and then went off, meaning that it's done. When I tried to open the sound file, it doesn't play anything. I also tried using MkvEGUI to try to extract the sound files, but they came out to be longer than the original files (extra minutes) How can I extract a sound file that has the correct length from that mkv file?

  7. By the way, is there any way to accomplish the same conversion while not affecting the quality of the video? And what do you mean textsub in avisynth? How can I do that?
