That was my suggestion as well, which was about three or posts up from this one.

  2. Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I haven't posted back sooner, but have been without computer access for a few days.

Yes, I have already tried just opening up Windows Exploerer and copy/past or dragging the files from the DVD to the hard drive. Again, it says there is an error.

Also --- for the person wondering why I would used DVDShrink to copy a backed-up DVD -------- I typically wouldn't. I just listed it as one of the methods I had tried. After everything else had failed, I tried it as a last resort.

As for how I label and store my DVD's:

As soon as I burn a DVD, I usually print a Memorex label and apply it. I'm always very gentle with this process (no chance I'm scratching or damaging the DVD). Then, I put the DVD into a plastic DVD case. Then put the case on a shelf. The DVD then just sits there, in a room of my house, on a shelf, in a case, and is not disturbed.

Here is something that I finally found that sort of works:

I open up DVD Decrypter ---- and use it. Sure, there's no copy protection involved, but Decrypter will keep trying, even if it has an error. After so many attempts, I get a pop up box asking me if I want to ignore, retry, abort. What I'm finding, is that if I keep hitting "retry", it will eventually read the data. The 3 or 4 that I've done this way has had anywhere between 300 and 900 retries. Obviously this is very annoying --- but at least I end up getting the data read.

    There's your problem.

  4. The fact that I apply a label at all? Or the fact that it's a Memorex label? And if this is the case, does that mean that if I remove the label I would suddenly be able to copy the DVD again?

(Have some stuff that would easily remove the label, and all stickyness)

Yes, labels throw off the disc balance.

    Nope

You are still better off, using the shrunk files on your hard drive to create another copy, or when you first burn, change the number of burns to 2.

Real simple solution. Back-up Nero 6 to the Sep 04 release.

As has been pointed out many times applying a sticky type label of any kind is bad. Period. Stop doing it.

As for removing a sticky label already on a burnt DVD ... chances are you will ruin the DVD attempting to do this although with some hot water and dish soap ... it might work.

As far as making a back-up copy of a back-up the best most fool proof way is to use ISO READ then ISO WRITE modes in DVD Decrypter.

Chances are that your ripping problems and copying problems of the back-up DVD discs is all due to the fact that you put stick labels on them.

I quite often get the quote cyclic redundancy check but found that trying to copy the problem file 1st thing in the morning(when pc is cold) it copies with no problem.

I've actually used this method in the last 15 mins as I have just got in from work and the file copied fine.

I haven't got a clue why but it works.
If anyone knows why please let me know.
