I have burnt a few dvd's with anime on. I encoded it using TMPGEnc Plus.
After its encoded the whole thing is a touch darker than usual and not quite as crisp, also, when the DVD is finished and played on my TV, i get a bit of noise here and there, and particularly at the beggining it lags a bit (stutters). However, i dont get the noise while playing on a PC, just on my TV.
I used NTSC VBR linear PCM Audio (havnt really got a clue what to use).
I then import my file and set the content of video to film movie (as the help button said to do so for animation).
I then cut it to reduce the overlay and then encoded it.
I authered it using DVD-Lab PRO.
anyone got any tips for making better video/sound quality? particularly with animation as alot of it is still frames.
All the best
Tom

Take a look at some of the filters in tmpgenc, particularily ghost reduction, noise reduction, and sharpen edge.
Alternatively, open the avi in virtualdub and filter it there, then frameserve to tmpgenc plus.Cheers, Jim

as for using PCM audio, depending on where you reside you can use MP2, and you can use AC3 anywhere for DVD. MP2 = PAL land. Just an FYI as this saves much space which can then be used for either another episode or less video compression (which could also be causing your problems)
