  1. I have problem playing back DVD+R W (sample disc supplied with the Liteon) recorded from my Liteon 5005 on a stand-alone DVD player (Cyberhome CH-DVD 300). CH-DVD 300 displayed a file menu as if the disc was a MP3! I've read in other forums that others have the same problem. This Cyberhome player plays back all DVD +/- RW I've thrown at it.

I downloaded the latest System Firmware and the Driver Firmwares from the Lite-on last night (Jan 25, 05, I don't know what's the FW versions of it) and upgraded my Liteon 5005 recorder but DVD+RW burned with the new firmwares still has the same problem on my CH-DVD 300. Does anyone have better luck with it.

I recorded only a 30min clip on the disc with a name assigned to its title or chapter - This was suggested by Liteon Tech Support which didn't help solve this playback problem! I'd appreciate your help.

  2. The newest 1098 firmware was supposed to improve compatibility so make sure that is what you are using.
Another thing you can try is recording more than one title on the disc.

  3. Do you know where in the menu can I check what is the current firmware version on the 5005? I downloaded the system & drive firmwares at the www.liteonit.com just a few days ago (jan 23). I supposed that's the latest.

I tried recorded 3 different clips and give each a name as suggested by liteon tech support but that still doesn't cut it. What other things can I try?

  4. Press the setup button. The serial number appears at the top right of the screen. It can be hard to see because the text is faint compared to the text on the rest of the screen.
You should see something like SN:0102-1840-0098-G2BC(113-010D)

The 0098 would indicate you have the 1098 firmware.
