  1. I have read on several threads that Procoder 1.5 is better than 2.0. Anyone know where I can buy the older version? I'm looking for the under $100 version which may actually be procoder express. Is that correct?

Is there a different name for the cheaper Procoder encoder product? Is the quality as good as the "pro" version for DV to mpeg2 (with less options, I'd assume)?

    Thanks

procoder express is version 2 encoding engine ..

there never was a under $100 version of 1.5 , older encoding lite versions (before procoder express) used different encoding engines than procoder (1-2) and were pretty bad ...

you MIGHT be able to find 1.5 on ebay , or contact canopus ....

  5. OK, thanks. That gets me to Procoder Express, but is this "version 1.5" that many say is better than the newer version for camcorder DV footage?

Also, anyone know what encoder is user in Canopus "Let's Convert", and all-in-one DV to DVD converter that is Windows XP only, according to their website. If "Let's Convert" has the same encoder, I'd go with it.

please see my post above -- procoder express uses the version 2 encoding engine ...

1.5 engine is not used in ANY current canopus products ..

and frankly -- version 2 is very good ..

  7. yea, I get that. I may buy 2.0 but I read a while back where someone posted a link to where 1.5 was available still. If it's better for interlaced DV, then that's the version I want.

Also, I'm still interested in the Canopus "Let's Convert" product if it is used by anyone here that can say they got good results with it.

btw -- the warez versions of both 1.5 and 2 have bugs in the them -- if you are thinking of going that route -- which i trust your not ...

this info is on the canopus forums ...

  10. I don't even know what a "warez version" of procoder is, nor where to get it. I assume that is some illegal??? version but not sure. I just want whoever discussed this before to see the question. I should have bookmarked that thread, but I didn't.

I have no problem paying for good software. The folks who talk "porcoder" most almost always say V.1.5 is BETTER for DV to mpeg2 which is about all the encoding I do. I just want my kids' miniDV home movied on DVD with absolute top quality for a reasonable cost. I'm not completely happy w/ TMPGenc Express so i'm trying to look at procoder 1.5 (or 2.0 if the previous version isn't available).

I will check the Canopus forum - I never thought of that!

i think you would be just as happy with 2 ...

but you really dont need procoder if all your doing is dv to dvd ... express will give you the same thing

  13. BJ, yea, I think I meant "express". Whatever it is called, I want the under $100 version. I guess that's Procoer Express - it's the version # I'm not sure of. Thanks again.

  14. there is NO difference between them.
I used 1.5 and 2.0 and the same. They say that 1.5 is better, but, for your eyes is the same.
