Ok here is the deal. I capture some video using virtualdub. The captured video is good on my computer.

When I authored these AVI's to DVD, the playback on the TV is jittery. From what I read here, this is because I have the field order reversed.
I plan to encode these AVI clips to MPG and correct the field order at the same time. This is my problem:

The total lenght of the videos is 2hrs 13 minutes. I opened up TMPGEnc (to encode the AVI's), and I look at my options for audio, I am allowed PCM or MPG. PCM is too large to retain video quality and I've read on another site that MPG audio can possibly give compatiblity problems.

So I guess my question is, how can I correct the field order and still use AC3 audio? I plan to use Ulead DVD MovieFactory to author DVD.

    Thanks,
    Mako

convert the video with tmpgenc and then convert the audio to ac3 with for example ffmpeggui. but you need DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator Edition if you want to be able to import ac3 audio.

    Baldrick,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I do have DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator Edition. I forgot to mention that in my orginal post. One last question... Is MPG audio and AC3 audio the same quality when encoded at the same bitrate? Just different formats?

    Thanks,

  4. If you are making DVDs for your personal use you can probably use MPEG audio. All PAL players, and most NTSC players support it.

Yes, the bitrates are comparable when talking about 2-channel (stereo) AC3 and 2-channel MP2.
