    Hello,
Hope Someone has tried this with success. Forgive me if this has been gone over already but I have tried to search for this topic with no real success.
My proposal or project if you will is this; I am trying to find a way to author a DVD with multiple Divx/Xvid/Avi files with no size changes from original source as well as no loss in quality.
I have successfully created a VOB file from 700 meg Divx with no change in size what so ever, now in theory I should be able to control quality of VOB during conversion ( I Hope ) that willl allow me to author a DVD with multiple movie files with out loosing quality as well as being able to fit more that three full length films to one DVD single layer.
I have successfully authored a DVD with three full length movies in DVD Lab with full motion menus as well as chapters and sound. But to me, this is not enough. I would like to go a step further by creating a DVD from Divx files fitting as many as six on one DVD with just as good quality as SVCD to DVD. Please feel free to comment on this as well as Email me any help you might be able to provide.
    Thanks in advance. Gforce598@yahoo.com

You seem to be a little off base here. Once you have a VOB, you have already converted it to mpeg-2. There is no conversion left. The only way you can truely achieve what you want (6 movies on one disk with quality drop) is to buy a player that plays Divx natively.

There is no way you can convert a full movie in a 700mb Divx to mpeg-2, keep the file sizes the same, and not get completely crap quality. The compression methods between the two are too different.

Ok so maybe there really is no way of getting six movies on to one dvd but is there a way of getting more than three on one with out quality suffering to highly to point of being useless to attempt it ? WINAVI converts divx to VOB very quickly and does have interesting possibilities. I played with settings a bit a far as telling it to make mini DVD and one disk out put and have had fairly decent results with this.

It is possible, at half-D1, to get 3.6 hours of OK quality footage. That's 3 80-85 minute movies. These certainly wont be DVD quality, but might get to SVCD quality. I guess it depends on how tolerant you are towards the quality. If I was working from a VHS source, I'd probably accept it. If the source was closer to DVD (and some good Divx/Xvids can be), then I'd put less on a disk. Hell, they are cheap enough.

  5. Try KVCD templates. With luck, you can fit 16+ hours on one dvdr. Don't expect miracles.

Same (file?) size, same quality, mpeg4 -> mpeg2. Nope, can,t be done.

I am sure you have, but chances are the quality was lower. If it had little motion you may have got away with it I suppose.

Get a DVD player that plays divx direct, save you a lot of trouble.

I've been doing a bit of testing with xvid/divx's and even if you used a low 2200kbs (which is perfectly possible with good results..depending on your source avi's) on 720 X 480 DVD your STILL only looking at 4 hours max per DVD when the audios added.

But you will need to find the optimal encoding bitrates for those avi's first....2200 does not hold true for all avi's....some require much more.
