Yes it still there. A good website for programs for all the TI calculators.

I've made a few (very simple) math programs for the TI83 myself. It not hard to do.

Try google or clusty searches. There are a ton of sites that can teach you to program it certain ways, so you can create your own programs, games, or whatever else. I had an HP48G. Loved it so much more than the TI series. A bit funny to figure out at first, but so much more capabilities. In college, we called the TI calculators the poor mans, wussy calculators. :P

Last time I checked they were roughly the same price. The HP48Gs were usually $10-20 more in most places. I can get a TI-83 for $100 at Best Buy. I can't find a HP48G for less than $115 unless I look online. They have other cool functionality. It's just that most teachers use the TI calculators because they are quicker to figure out and already have a lot more information on programs made and available. The 48Gs were nice because you could send messages, programs, & games wirelessly in class.

    Enter the cell phone
All the capabilities of the HP calcs AND send texts. (Provided someone whips up a full-function graphing calculator in mini-Java for a cell phone).

I'm sure some one's made one
That Motorola Razor's gotta be able to handle Linux. Imagine a cell phone crashing ....sadly, my cell phone has crashed in the past =\

I know there are graphing calculators with cell phone/text paging technology. I've seen a couple, but you're not allowed to use them in testing centers. Potential of cheating, I guess. But they allow the 48Gs, which can still transmit info.

    It's pretty basic programing.

When I owned my Car Audio shop, I programed a few TI81s and 83s to calculate SPL levels from number of speakers, watts, etc.. and a simple box design program using TS params.

Before that I used in my Physics and Calculas classes in college to store formulas, and had it help me with the perodic table in chemisty (input symbol, output all the info).

The CPUs are weak, anything advanced will take forever for the TI to calculate. Lessens the battery life too.

If you program anything on your TI, back it up to your PC with the USB connector. The little watch battery that serves as memory doesn't last forever, and if you ever change it, you'll lose all of your programs.

I didn't own a PC when I owned my TIs, but you might be able to program it from the PC with the connector.

I also know there are some small program emulators of the HP calculators that you can put on a pocket PC. SO if your professor has a class that requires an HP graphing calculator, you can just show up with a Compaq or HP pocket PC. I don't know if they have that kind of software with the TI calculators. I wouldn't doubt it if there is some one the market. I just haven't seen any.
