  1. I have a mystic problem with my HIS Radeon 9700.
When i connect my pc to tv with a brand new s-vhs cable, i get a very dark picture on the tv and very strong red and blue color too.
I have tried a simple rca cable with the "s-vhstorca"-connector that came along with my vga card too but then it gets even worse i just got non sync picture with rolling horizontal lines al over the tv screen.

Excuse my bad english, please somebody, help me!

Most people say that S-video out is generally bad from video cards.

I get a little bit of interference on my Ati 9600 Pro.

But I have an old Rage 32MB card that has relly good S-Video out.

I think the problem is that the card maker put stuff too close to the S-video out. and siinve it is analog out it is very suspectable to interference.

The interence that I get is minor though but if someone knows of way for get rid of the interference that would be cool.

I rarely hook my 9600 up to a TV though I use my shitty computer to watch DivX and other MPEG4 on TV.

I think new video cards have too much power going through them and don't space things out far enough. the 9700 have to connect directly to the power supply with one of the 12 volts right? The 9600 hundred just gets power from the motherboard through the AGP slot but still gets a little interference.

The S-video out should probably be shielded from the rest of the card.

I should contact Ati and complain and should should contact HIS and complain maybe they will improve.

Sounds like NTSC/PAL signal crossover issues.

  4. So do you get better picture from the RCA (yellow) Video-Out? I'm tempted to try, although I "thought" S-Video had better performance...

Also, are there any good sites for getting some calibration advice? I'd like to get the same kind of bright, saturated (but not washed out) kind of image I used to get with my TiVO, but can't seem to find any group of settings to get that.

Finally, I have tried to set the display settings in Eazyview directly with the "Setup" key, but while it shows the menu, it refuses to acknowledge the remote up and down keys - even though they work fine in the Library. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ewan

  5. I'm with lordsmurf,it sounds like the jumper is set wrong make sure it's set to your standard(NTSC or PAL):

Also make sure you have TV enabled and adjust the color in ATI Control Panel.

I use a Sapphire Radeon 9550 (ATI chipset) video card with my projection TV screen.

Composite was unwatchable, very fuzzy. I tried S-Video, much better. No color problems or interference. But the text was still mostly unreadable.

Finally went to a ATI DVI-HDTV adapter. Works great and I can read the text. I still wouldn't use it for a computer monitor, but it's good for computer videos.

The color level, contrast, brightness and all was the same between S-Video, the composite and the HDTV setup, the only difference was the HDTV signal was the clearest.

  7. OK, sounds like trying to play with cables isn't going to buy me much, and that sticking with my current setup is probably best.

I'm still curious (should I put this in a seperate thread?) if anyone else is having the problem I've been having with Eazyview (or does everyone use something else as a PVR application for an ATi card)?

I'd also love pointers to any suggested calibration settings, or guides on how to find the best calibration settings to get a good picture on the screen. Currently it's ok, and while there are some good monitor calibration sites (discussing how best to set gamma and such) I haven't seen anything similar for TV-OUT and TVs.

    Thanks,
    Ewan
