VCd to XVid Error

I'm trying to convert a VCD to Avi file, but when I load the dat file in VirtualDub it gives "MPEG Import Filter: Packet sync error on packet stream". I get error for this particular file only.
Is there ne other tool or way to do the conversiion (have tried Dr. DivX, but it has terrible a/v sync prob.)

open the mpg in tmpgenc, select file->output as -> avi.

if it is a dat file on a vcd be sure to rip it to mpg file with isobuster or vcdgear first.

Thnx for the quick reply....havn't used TMPGenc, r there options for setting the birate and and chosing the codec for compression.
