  1. I've tried encoding replaytv files and .vobs from my DVD collection to mpeg-4 format (I usually encode at around 1400 kbs - in the green zone, and throw into an .avi container), with both ffmpeg and mencoder. In my tests, mencoder is consistently faster with the same material. IN threads, people have reported that mencoder results in higher quality as well. So, is there any reason to use the ffmpeg engine rather than the mencoder engine for these purposes?

    thanks in advance!

  2. The short answer is: no.
