  1. For compatibility issues i need to dumb down my NEC drive to something that the equipment supports. The NEC 3520 is 16x and the one i want it to be is 8x, right now i cant even use the drive so 8x is better than 0x

Will flashing the firmware do the trick?

are you sure it's not the media?

If you have stock firmware it is quite possible that the Firmware only allows that media to be burnered at lower speed.

My Lite On 451 does like the TDK 4x DVD-R media. It would only allow me to burn it at 2x.

    What media are you using?

and What speed is it allowing you to burn at?

  3. Sounds like you have other issues here, you say right now you can't even use the drive??

  4. don't think it's possible to go that low, but you can try.

anyway, as stated above, is something else, either the burner, media or software-pc settings.

  5. The device wont even recognize the drive. Like its not even plugged in. Its a stand alone duplicator. It recognizes my Sony DVD-ROM and an old CDR drive unfortunately. I found some documentation with about 9 brands and 24 models of supported drives--those NEC ones listed above and a few others.

  6. You should have told us you were using such a device to begin with. In all likelyhood it is simply not compatible with it, being a new drive. Unless your duplicator has some kind of firmware type of upgradeability, you'll probably be out of luck. There's a reason why these devices list compatible drives...

BTW, you'll have zero chance of converting your drive to a 2500, they are totally different drives.
