I guess it's been too long since MS has actively generated bad will in the PC community, they must be bored and longing for a fresh wave of hatred...

i guess you dont own OSX , where you have to pay for all patchs ....
as for airports -- i guess you dont fly much as i got horror stories ..
ms is not the only one doing this -- many companies are going this route .... they could just start charging for updates like many many other companies are doing .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

They say security issues will still be patched for everyone, only non-critical updates will be covered by this. They know better than to risk leaving even more unpatched machines available for hackers to attack than there are already!

in the desktop market -- linux is not even a player, even macs are twice as many ...
but in the server market - it sure is A player .. but server distro 's are not now often free either, and require costly service packages (same as sun) .

Okay. Let me get this straight.
Used to be when you bought a new computer system (full up), you received hardware AND the media of the software that came with it.
I know that some companies (all? certainly HP, I know) now don't even supply a [set of] rescue disk when you purchase a complete system. The user is relying on a partition (with the rescue s/w) on the only hard drive they get for fixing their system. If they know how to do that.
This was all performed in order to reduce/eliminate piracy.
Didn't work did it?
So when will it be when we are forced to all have "constant on" internet hookups and leave our computers on all the time so the manufacturers can police the stuff that we legitimately own?
Last I checked, I don't work for them, nor live in their neighborhood.
(Is this Lansing, Michigan?)
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)
