Okay... I apologise if this has been covered, however my searches could not uncover a thread dealing with this.

I would like to have multiple music tracks on a menu. Such that a user can click a button changing between music tracks, whilst remaining on the same menu.

I am using Adobe Encore 1.5
Currently the only method I got to work is creating a complete copy of the menu with a different background audio track, and simply linking the button to this menu copy...and then a 2nd copy, 3rd etc for the music tracks.

Secondly..this probably has been dealt with, however i will just add it as a tacko...Is it possible in encore to move between menus, whilst keeping this same audio track and even video background also?

    thanks,

AFAIK, what you want isn't doable withing the DVD standard. I think your current method is what you can do.
But then again - encoding your menu mpg with several audio tracks, and let the menu items be "select audio track" actions - maybe! (Seems like I have to investigate further - this sounds cool!)

that was the other method i was thinking of...however, (if i'm not mistaken) you have to select a particular audio file for the menu 'audio'. (at least i think so), and a particular video file for the menu 'video'.

although what you say warrants investigation..i shall look

There's a tricksy way to do it: have each menu button take you to another menu which is identical except for the background music.

    * Just realised that you are already doing this. What is your objection to this method? It seems to do exactly what you want?

no objection, just wondering if i was missing something...

however i would be nice to 'randomly' select the menu...but i think i'm getting well out of the possibilities of dvd authoring. But still i find it interesting that this is all not possible..why is that?

also...the menu has to 'reset' each time i click the 'change music' button.
which also means that you do not get a Smooth transition when 'changing music'.

My objection is that I always get a not insignificant delay when switching menus - and if I have an animated backround, this will be reset. (But then again, switching audio tracks would start playing track 2 (that has to be the same length as track 1, come to think of it!) at the point where I "left" track 1...)

Well, if its smooth transition you are after then I think what you really (both) want is a slideshow. Slideshows use basically the same DVD features as simple menus: ie. one MPEG2 still is paired with one music track, but these elements are placed one after another in sequence, with a chapter point at each transition, all making one title set. You then use the chapter keys on your remote to step between tracks, or the number keys to select a particular track. It works just like a CD, except there's a still picture to describe the music. I've done this and liked the result.

The above assumes static backgrounds. If you want motion backgrounds you would have to synthesize a movie, ie. take the still and write it to an AVI however many times are needed to get the movie length to match the audio. Then run through an MPEG2 encoder. However, in this case the video (if you want decent quality) will eat up a substantial part of the DVD disk space, leaving less for the high quality audio which I assume you want.

Shuffle play would be more difficult to do. It's probably possible using the programmable registers and VM instructions, but it isn't something I've ever tried.

DVD architect 2 is the right tool to do that. You just add as many tracks as you want on the interactve window on DVDA (well i think is limited to 8 but come on thats good enough for a menu with different soundtracks)

    it works just flawlessly

    you are welcome!

and you are right vegas rocks! and wait to see what you can do with DVDA2, the possibilities are infinite to get what you want in terms of authoring a decent DVD. I was actually stock with tmpec dvd author but seeing and working hands on for a while over DVDA2, definitely it is beyond what you were expecting, the program is relly good

    regards
