  1. Can anybody help me with this problem?

I'm having problems playing xvids(.avi's) on my pc. I recently aquired two movies wich are in .avi format, I want to convert them to dvd and put them to disk. I have succesfully converted .avi's before, but it seems that xvids are giving me problems. The problem is that they don't play very well in windows media player - they are stuttery, jerky even. It is especially noticable when the camera pans or tilts. When i do try to convert the resulting .vob files are also stuttery and jerky!!
I think the files themselves are ok because they play quite well in vlc player ( What doesn't play well in vlc?) and i have sucessully played them in media player classic. I have all the codecs a guy could want including up to date xvid codecs- what could the problem be? I suspect it could be that i have too many codecs on my pc and they are causing problems, but the only files that I have trounle with are .avi xvid files..
Any help on this matter would be great.

FYI, The files were both originally .rar format but I don't thinkt his should effect them, also they were aquired at different times - one before christmas and one just recently.

Thanks in advance for your help..

Sounds like interlace, or bad framerate conversion.
To say "avi" means absolutely nothing.

Run GSPOT to see the source file specs.
Probably just a botched encode job.

Post a screen cap of the settings in GSPOT.

  3. I don't think it was a bad encoding as vlc player plays it fine, also a mate of mine copied the .avi file and it played fine in his pc (no sound though) I suspect he hadn't got the audio codec but the picture was fine ![/img]
