  1. How fast do you guys encode with DVD shink? I have a 16x DVD rom drive for ripping, and it only goes at around 3500kb/sec. I have a top end machine so I don't think that is the bottle neck. Is there something I can do to make it faster? I'm not talking about the analyzing phase here, im talking strictly the encoding phase. What are you all getting for speeds? How can I up mine?

I'm not quite clear what you are asking. If the ripping speed (reading the files from the DVD) is running at that pace, I would suggest looking for a firmware upgrade for your DVD Rom drive to remove the riplock. Also make sure the DV Rom is operating in DMA mode, not PIO.

  3. 3500kb/sec is not bad at all if you are actually compressing. If you use AEC it will vary also. I've got a fast system and if you use max smoothness, for example, it can dip below 1000kb/sec.

  4. Lots of factors...ripping from DVD-R, DVD Pressed discs, amount of compression used if any, using AEC as Steve mentioned...
    My 708A 12X can rip @ 11,500kbs(end of disc) using DVD5 (no compression) or 1200kbs (steady) w/ DL pressed DVD9 @ 60% compression AEC-default. Big difference.

Strangely enough, I have found that is I rip from my external Sony 530ul fire wire I get much faster rip speeds than from my IDE drivean NEC 3500 DL 16x RW drive. I just set up DVDshrink to rip from the external to ISO and burn with DVD decrypter on the NEC. I Do not get astronomical speeds but I get about 5000-8000 kbs which I could never get off the NEC
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
