  1. Hey guys. I have two questions.

First, does anyone have any experience or opinions on which encoder has the best noise filter for low res avi caps. The resolution of the avi files are approx 320 x 240, and are divx/xvid compressed.

I've heard that TMPG has a great noise filter, but I know it is slow. I can also use Convolution3D with avisnyth and frameserve to CCE SP, which would be faster. I probably will run some tests myself, but I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on which noise filter is better.

Second, I have been debating on whether or not to encode these at Half d1 (352 x 480) or use the lower but DVD-compliant 352 x 240. I know the lower res is closer to the original resolution, but I am worried about compatibility. FullD1 being the most compatible, I think I have read that HalfD1 is usually ok, and that 352 x 240 might have some compatibility problems in older players even though it is compliant.

Does anyone have any experience encoding in 352 x 240 and have your DVDs all been compatible?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I would filter it in virtualdub, and frameserve it at 352x240. I've had no compatibility problems with MY dvd players, but you're right, some older ones may balk.
