  1. Hello, ive had my capture card from ati for over a year now i love the card i have a cable line hooked up to it and it works great my problem is ive tried to hook up my tv to the capture card to transfer some old family video off vhs to the computer. i bought the card for this purpous. i had everything hooked up correctly but all i got was a black screen when i tried to capture something.

so i went and ran the pc check thats in ATI software and i recieved this message

    Checks the WDM (capture) drivers.
    Test result:
WDM devices INF file not installed.
WDM devices are not listed in registry.
WDM devices are not loaded or enumerated by the device manager.
Explanation: There is a problem with the WDM drivers. TV and video capture must have these components.

Recommendation: Get the capture drivers and the recommended ATI display driver from the ATI website:

now i just reformated my system due to other issues. ive updated the ati software to the new driveres (had the same issues with previous drivers even the ones on the cd) ive ran out of ideas. has anyone had similar problems with this card.

    thanks

  2. Well if you can capture via coaxial input I assume you could try to run your VCR into your pc through it.I have the same card but I don't use the ATI software.I use drivers found here:http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/
and capture with AVI_IO and edit in Virtualdub. You could try removing all ATI's software and running these drivers for composite input capturing.
    you'll win in time

I used the ATI VE for the past six months, and just upgraded to the AIW 9600XT today (which I highly, highly, highly recommend). I have had the same problem before, and it happens whenever I try to upgrade my version of MMC, or I have to re-install for any reason. For some reason, I could never get my ATI VE to accept any version besides MMC 7.9. And every time I tried to upgrade I ended up with everything screwed up.

    To fix it:
Completely uninstall the ATI VE software, whatever version of MMC you wanted to upgrade to, whatever drivers you updated, PLUS your old version of MMC. And anything else that you put on with ATI.
-Re-install the version of MMC you were using before. You can find the older versions of the software at ATI's site.

Also, when I captured VHS on that card, I found that using the RCA/composite connector gave me much, much better results. You can buy a converter from Radio Shack that will allow you to plug the Red & White Audio RCA into the 1/8" line in hole on your soundcard.
