In the Encore manual in the "Building the finished project" pg 149 there is the warning "Do not make a DVD folder and then burn that to a DVD".

Does anybody know why they make that warning? I tried it once onto a DVD-RW and it worked ok.

I made the folder and tested using PowerDVD to be sure all the menus were working as desired, then burned from there using Prassi.

because then they have no control on the settings to burn it .. (i suspect)

prassi burns a UDF/ISO bridge for dvd by default and nero burns a ISO only by default for dvd ..

    as an example .

Not sure what you mean by "bride" or what it would be if a typo.

To get more specific with my original question.
Since I got away with it once, do you think there is a major risk?
Using Prassi, is that UDF/ISO DVD format liable to be less compatible?

  4. I had problems when creating a folder and burning with nero. Using Encore to burn the project without changes and the resulting disk was fine. So I don't know why but what the manual says is true.

as for using prassi -- keep using it, i burned several 1000's of disks with it and never a problem ...

BJ_M is dead right. I know someone who got into all sorts of trouble creating images with Sony DVD Architect and burning with Nero.....big compatability issues. I suspect Encore will output an image with a particular structure in mind for burning - I'd expect UDF 1.02. Say you took an image from Encore into some other burning sofware and didn't get yr settings right then it's a whole world of trouble.

So it sounds like the UDF format is the key.

I wonder if we could do the community some good by collecting info about which burning software must be avoided if you want to burn from a DVD folder?

Or maybe it is how to setup your software if you want to do that? I probably just got lucky using Prassi because I did not make any special settings.

    Thanks to all!
