I now have my AIW card set up in my computer (yippee) and have a couple of questions...

    1. This is pretty subjective, but....on average, with my quality of VHS tapes (20 yrs. old or less, possible bad-ish quality), what percent of the time would I need to use a standalone TBC *IF* I am already using a high-end JVC S-VCR w/ the line-based TBC turned on?

    2. If I go from the VCR -> TBC -> AIW w/ my S-Video, and VCR -> AIW w/ my audio, do I need to use equal length of cables (ex: two 3 ft. S-Video cables and one 6 ft audio), or can I have different lengths? I guess what I am asking is whether or not different lengths for audio and video channels will throw captures ever-so-slightly out of sync? I am guessing it won't since the signals are both moving at extremely fast speeds through the lines, but you can never be too sure...

At 300,000,000 metres per second, you'd need an awful lot of cable before the out-of-sync would be noticed!

Do you need the TBC? I've never found a bit of tape that the AIW couldn't handle without one.

    lol

I had heard some views that the AIW was very touchy w/ bad tapes; that's why I ask.

I have an order On Hold for a TBC-1000, and if I don't really need it, I'm going to cancel it while I still can.

Antitract, do some test footage to see which produces the better result, try it in different combinations. You may even find that different combos work better than others on specific tapes. Try a capture without any TBC including the VCR and let us know your results.

Thought you had it, I wouldn't purchase one the JVC should be sufficient if in fact you need it at all. It's been my experience that the TBC does make a markable inprovement. Like I said do some comparisons.

Naw, the TBC I ordered was put on hold...well, I think you might just be right. With a little luck my old tapes will hold up okay.
