  1. Is there a program to change the resolution of a .avi file by just adding a black border around it instead of stretching it? I would be preferred if the program could do them in a batch aswell.

    thanks.

VirtualDub. But it means reencoding, either to a new AVI or, by frameserving to an mpeg encoder, encoding to mpg. But it would sure help if you told us what you got and what you want...

You can add a "job" for VirtualDub (a checkbox in the "Save AVI" dialog) to set up a lot of jobs for VD to perform after you've finished.

Not that I know of, but i'd think it could be done with some clever AviSynth scripting...

...and in what format would you like them to end up? And perhaps it's time you let us in on your secret: What do you intend to do with the resized/letterboxed video?

you said they were avi , then mpeg ....

anyway --- is it really worth it to put a border on them ?

    it going to require a re-render anyway - i.e. , quality loss

    WHY?????????????

Just use Zoomplayer or similar and stretch, zoom to your hearts content (or use the AR presets).....hows letterboxing going to help you?

Or are they for an avi enabled DVD player and originally encoded INCORRECTLY?

Oh, sorry,I missed your post saying that your avi's are in fact mpegs.

The fact remains the same though, avi's dont need letterboxing (you crop off any borders mpeg to get the correct AR) and convert the avi's horizontal resolution to suit the DAR of the mpeg. The avi DVD player will read the AR of the avi and add its own borders anyway (or mine do).
