    hi

heres my question, and I think its a two part'r.

Would anyone be able to tell me how reliable Memorex DVD+R (purchased as a '50 spindle' from futureshop) is when writing at 8X?
I am under the impression that writing at 4X (which I have been doing) would give me a higher quality, or more reliable 'burn'. Somehow, I think this may be wrong.
I have backed up a couple of discs at 8X and have not found a problem, but I find I am a little put off by the idea of putting blind faith in a number on the package. silly isnt it?

I am not quite sure exactly what information I could give that would tell you what kind of media I am using, so I am just going to share all of what dvd identifier tells me:
    Unique disc identifier: RITEK+R:RITEKR03-002
    Disc Type: RITEK Co.
    Media Type ID: R03
    Product Revision: 002
    Disc application Code: general purpose
    Recording speeds: 1X, 2.4X, 4X, 6X-8X

... can anyone tell me what the importance of the media type Id and the product revision is? or point me tw where I may find out?

I use an LG GSA 4120B (Apperently a DL writer) which I'm told is a 16X writer.
thank you for your time and help.

I have had poor luck with Memorex in general. You can never be sure which manufacturer you are going to get. My results with Memorex have been mixed at best. To throw fuel on the fire I have had problems with Ritek media for the last year now too. I have been sticking to Fuji 8x at 19.99 per 50 made in Japan.

I have been getting Taiyo Yuden in all of my made in Japan packs from Fuji lately. I do nt tink anyone will argue that TY is excellent media.

As for the importance of the media code. It is high IMHO. The media code is going to tell you with a good degree of certainty who made the media you purchased. You need to realize that the brand on the label is most likely not the manufacturer. So pay attention to your media codes and check the media ratings on this site and with that information you shouldbe able to mak an informed decision. My advice is try different kinds of media and find the one that seems to work withy our recorder and use them. Don't worryt oo much about what everyone else thinks. DVD burners are so different that unless someone has the exact same on you do and the exact same software you use, you will find they could have perfect results and you might get all coasters.

    Hope this helps.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!
