I had a divx avi initially, which was about 690 MB and thus fit on a 80min CD. But I wanted to make a VCD out of it. So I converted it into a MPEG-1 using TMPGEnc and Virtualdub. After I obtained my mpeg, I noticed it was very minutely a bit blurry and amazingly was 920 MB ! Thus it means that I can no longer fit it on 1 CD. I also tried adding this mpeg in the VCD burning template of Nero and EasyCd Creator, and it does easily recognise it although its too long.

Hence I tried some mpeg editing tools such as ones in TMPGEnc and IfilmEdit. After I split my mpeg into 2 smaller mpegs, I noticed that when I drag these mpegs in Nero or ECDC, it gives me “Invalid format” suggesting that the editing has stuffed up the format of the files.

Well, that means that I will have to encode them again thus spending so much time (5-6 hours) AGAIN. Could someone suggest a technique or suggestion as to how I can cut the big mpeg into smaller mpegs without altering the VCD compatibility of the smaller mpegs.

Hi I use Tmpgenc..just click Load...And choose vcd . Then you get the right settings...To get a higher quality Klick the Settings and choose High qual (slower)....Then convert the file. If it's too big , cut it with vcdcutter. Then you can burn your vcd...I'm using Ulead dvd movie factory..with good results......I had a' lot of problems, using adaptec to burn vcd's....Ulead is better.
    Good Luck...

After you edit the file with VCDcutter, then is it compatible with VCD burning with Ulead. Doen't it give any error message regarding "invalid format" or so?

  4. Hey make sure u do the following.... I had been doing the same thing wrong for some time....

Make sure you choose mpeg-1 vcd instead of the default auto
before you cut the mpeg. Otherwise it will give you non compliant mpeg.

    That should solve your problem

    Good Luck
