The disks I have are TY's and they have a shiny silver top. I found a sharpie permanent marker in my desk but i'm not sure if it's safe to use on these disks. What do you recommend?

Any felt tip is OK I use SHARPIE no problem just make sure they are dry before stacking,
-
Sharpie is the classic default although they won't warranty digital media.

Fine point sharpie has worked great for me.
Over one thousand DVDs written on and no issues yet.

Wow. What happened? This used to be as fun as the +/- debates... Where's the anti-sharpie people?

I use a ballpoint Bic. Have to go over it a few times when the top is shiny. I would say the merits of the ballpoint are greater than the Sharpie.
1) No "headrush" from the magic marker smell
2) I can buy a ten pack of Bics for $1.00 on sale. Sharpies cost over a dollar EACH !
3) The thicker point of the Sharpie almost always assures that the letter "e" and "a" can get filled, skewing and confusing the reader.
4) Leave a Bic in front of a running air conditioner. Now take the cap off the Sharpie and leave it in front of the air conditioner. In four hours, which instrument will still be able to write ?
I'd say the ballpoint pen wins hands down. -
Well, my original vote was for the dremel tool.
But I will have to say a fine point Sharpie has been working great for me for 2 years now. -
Sharpie.
Maxell included a "Media Marker" with a 15 pack of their RG03 disks and it's terrible. Barely shows up. Sharpie is nice and dark and you can actually read what you wrote on the disc! -

I use a sharpie or other perm marker. Bic makes one that is pretty good as well.

Sorry guys, I was trying to be funny....Must not have translated properly.
Just for the record, I'd NEVER use a ballpoint pen on a DVD or CD. -
