Any of you familiar with the menus of the Friends Season DVDs?

How do I go about having a transparent image exist as the link that is only highlighted by its alpha channel to be the link to the actual movie? My guess is the text that describes each episode is a part of the background, or perhaps as a non-linked text object, and the graphic is placed on top of that. Kind of a unique way to denote the "cursor" position...

I know how to make 32bit PNG files and all that related to graphics...

I'm just curious how I use an image with the mask overlay to actually BE the link to my movie on the menu without using either text or a frame from the movie itself.

I'm using Sony DVD-AS. Currently, my only choices are to use text (that describes the clip) or the movie thumbnail. I just want to use a graphic (transparent) and have it show up by its highlight (alpha channel).

Maybe it's a DVD authoring application limitation? I'm fighting the need tooth and nail to fork out $599.

Is my question kind of clear? I'm having a tough time articulating what I want to do.

  3. DVDLab can do it. Link the image only, having text as a switched menu. Layer whatever you want on top or behind the transparent image. (If I understand what you want).

Hm. I don't think that's what I want to do. I'm not sure.

I just want a graphic to be the highlight object. But I only want the highlight to "reveal" the mask in the highlight color of the project.

My only options are the text (font) describing the movie, or the image (frame) of the movie.

I haven't seen the menu, so I may be way of beam, but DVD Lab and Photoshop would do this. Create the graphics in Photoshop for the background. Create a layer for each highlight graphic (effectively one for each link). On each layer create your highlight graphic, with transparency etc. Save as a PSD file with all layers intact.

In DVD Lab, import the PSD using the import function under the Menu menu. Each layer will load as a seperate subpicture. Link these to your assets. If you want these invisible, set the property for each subpicture to be normal invisible.
