Wow. This could be a newbie question, and I apologize if it is.

I'm using Sony VMS 5.x, and I'd like to perform a specfic type of effect. I doubt it's a filter, per se... here's what I'd like to do...

Take one frame of a clip (mid-stream), and carry that frame for a few seconds (like freeze frame). After 'n' seconds (frames), have it continue right on with the rest of the clip.

What's the easiest "or (gasp) best" way of doing that?

If it's to take an image capture of the frame, I don't know what program allows me to export the target frame, and besides that, matching up the exact "splice point" might prove difficult.

    Thanks so much!

how I would do it - (in Vegas 4)

find the frame I want to freeze. drop a marker at that frame, then Split At Marker - this gives me two clips from the original clip.

then I would highlight the desired frame and export it to an image file like .jpg or .png or .bmp.

then select the second clip, drag it away from the first clip, and drag the image file into the gap. expand or contract to taste.

pretty simple, at least in Vegas - but really, as long as you have the ability to split at a defined point, you could do it with anything.

Again, using Vegas. If the length of the clip can change, then I would use Housepig's suggestion. If the length of the clip needs to remain fixed, perhaps to match audio without having a blank patch in the middle, I would use a velocity envelope and drop to 0 in one frame, then back to 100% a coule of frames later.

Yeah. I don't have velocity envelope control in the "Home" version of Vegas Movie Studio...

But... I think I should have the ability to export the frame... but for the life of me, can't find the command/button.
