  1. Hi,
I've just been trying to capture some VHS tapes using an external USB 2.0 capture device. But have encountered some problems.

I've been capturing using the default software (USB 2.0 DVR). THis is very simple software, with no capture settings etc. It seems to captue fine using this program. but then when I import into nero to burn it re-encodes it. And when I play it on the TV it is very jitter, like the vision has been interlaced incorretly.

So it tried importing the file into tmpeg but it says the file is not supported.

I have been using cheap DVDs, would this have something to do with the jittery motion? Is there better software to capture with? I know everyone says virtual dub, but it only captures AVI, and I don't think my capture device will do this.

    Any advice?

If you are capturing directly to mpeg2 you shouldn't need to re-encode. Try transcoding it with Rejig or DVDShrink if the file is too big to fit on a dvdr. If you need to re-encode using TMPGenc, you may need the appropriate mpeg2 codec installed on your computer. Try installing PowerDVD (trial version will do). This will install the best mpeg2 codecs for you, but remember TMPGenc will only process mpeg2 files (after the trial period) by registering and paying for it.

  3. The file I am trying to burn is only about 15minutes, captured directly as MPEG2. So it shouldn't need to be re-encoded. I can't imoprt it into TMPGenc because it comes up with "file not supported" - but it plays fine in media player etc.

Could it be an interlacing problem? I just burned a 30sec AVI. It was uncompressed, upper field first, looked perfect on my NLE. It also came out a bit jittery on the DVD. But nero doesn't give you any options for interlacing or anything. Is there some freeware/shareware I can use to burn it, jsut to see if it is a problem within nero?

Also, is there any chance it is the cheap disks?

    Thanks
