I have learned a great deal about DVD backup. Now I want to learn about video editing. Specifically, I would like to take my tv captures of surfing and skating shows and edit out the audio and put my own soundtrack in. Anybody know of guides and tools to start with??
Thanks in advance!

If you are running Windows XP, download Windows Movie Maker 2. It may be a bit basic but it's free, easy to learn and works quite well. The original Movie Maker that came with Win XP was a bit limited (I heard it described as being to video editors what Paint is to graphics software). WMM2 is a lot better. You can add your own audio tracks and adjust the relative levels of the audio from the video and your own to either give a voiceover effect or to replace the audio completely.

You can also give Ulead Video Studio a try it's an excellent tool to get started with. Many options but it won't overwhelm you. There's a free 30 day trial.
