I saw some conversion techniques to convert PAL to NTSC, but they use Windows applications that I cannot use. Are there any tools I can use to convert a VEIDEO_TS PAL movie to NTSC using a Mac OSX? Can ffmpegX do this? Can it check a VIDEO_TS and tell me info on it like if it's PAL or NTSC etc?

Yes ffmpegX can check the source format and tell you info like it's PAL or NTSC. You can try to convert the framerate (using DVD quick presets and "Decode with Quicktime") but sound sync problem may appear in some cases. Make sure that your player is not able to play PAL, as many players can do that and convert to NTSC on the fly. In such case you don't have to re-encode and lose quality in the process.
