I would like to install Slackware Linux preferably without having to reinstall windows. I have an NTSF partition that i just ran a scandisk on and a defrag. I would like to resize this partition to free up some space for linux. I tried QTParted with the system rescue cd at www.sysresccd.org but it gave me an error that I have bad sectors on my drive. Do you know of any other free partitioning apps that will let me resize this NTSF partition?

Gari,
Why don't you run Checkdisk or Scandisk, or whichever marks the bad sectors?
Once they're marked as bad, it is in the EIDE, on the drive, that says do not use.. Not a Windows thing, nor Linux, for that matter.
Ranish, again, for free partitioning, for you, ideal, as I think it is Command Line.
Cheers,
George
Just got Redhat Fedora 9.3 with a Linux mag, DVD version. Plan to install as soon as I can get some crap off the 400 some gig on this machine. Or, unretire one of the old machines. -

I found this on the Ranish site forum about resizing an NTFS partition with Ranish: "I guess yes if you make it bigger, but I am not sure the OS will make any
profit of this...
If you mean to make it smaller, answer is certainly no: RPM knows nothing
about NTFS as it should be clear from the screens, so is unable to operate
on its structure. And a keypoint of NTFS is that the mirror copy of the
inode list (MFT) lies precisely... at the end of the partition. So to be
able to shrink it, you should before move this copy in another place..."
So is it NOT possible to resize an NTFS partition with ranish?
