  2. what ever you use to capture, DISABLE the preview. this will minimize if not eliminate the dropped frames. the program DVIO works well and uses minimal resources. When you capture to your HD it will be in DV avi format, you will need to edit and encode then author and burn. many people have many opinions on differnt programs, read the reviews and ratings. tmpeg is popular. Some like the do-it-all system hogs Ulead VS or Pinnalce studio. use the AC3 sound plugin to save a little space in the audio.

    good luck

Try Ulead Video Studio to get your feet wet. There's afree 30 day trial so if you don't like it or want to try others you can.

If your getting dropped frames while capturing DV-AVI with your system specs even with the preview on that's a system issue.

Technically no, PCM is but it takes up way too much space. There's a ac3 plug in for Video Studio.

There's really only one other choice and that's mpeg audio which will not play in some NTSC players.

So you think it's good to demultiplex the DV then use seperate programs to do audio and video editing and encooding then multiplex them togeather and author; Or just one program and edit it as DV then encode and author?

one other thing whats the difference between Multiplexing and muxing
    and demultiplexing and demuxing?

    What's your budget?
What system are you working on: PC or MAC? (Hint: Update your computer details in your profile... While you're at it, do your location too.)

My crystal ball says... Top-end stuff: Final Cut Pro v4.0 for MAC, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 for PC.

Of course, if you'd have looked in the "Tools" section under the "Advanced Video Editors" category, you could've seen a whole load of tools and, invariably, feedback on them...

"mux" is short for "multiplex". Sticking "de-" in front of it is the reverse (i.e. "undo").

Don't know - not used either so can't really comment. I'm currently happy with Premiere 6.0. I've heard Vegas 5 is really good too.

If only there was somewhere to read some feedback on each...
