The movies I made using Ritek G03s from less than a year ago are now seizing/freezing. I maintained them in DVD cases out of the sun/heat and always held them by the center hole and outer edge. This sucks - God only knows how many of these I'm going to find went bad.

From now on, TYs for me - I don't care how cheap the other media is. It's not worth going through all of this aggravation.

That's great and all, but were they tested 100% and watched 100% right after burning?

Yes, they were. They checked out fine and played without a hitch. Besides, this isn't the first time these movies are being played - they're watched several times a month as they're my daughter's favorites. And before you say they might be scratched, etc., I handle them by the edges and they're in mint condition.

I'll redo them using TYs - enough with the cheap media crap.

  4. Has the player been cleaned?
Have the disks been tried on another player? How many disks tested and how many players?
It is always easiest to say bad disk. It is much harder to say player needed cleaning.

What is the make/model of all your players? Not all players do a good job of dvd-r playback. Again--how many players do you have? How many discs have playback problems? Do the discs play properly in your burner? What speed was used to burn the Riteks. This info would be useful--or is this just a rant?

I was always under the impression that once the data was on the disc it was on the disc. I guess I never thought about layer seperation and things along those lines.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

It was said they played fine and had been played a few times monthly.
Sounds like a possible cleaning problem.
My sons PS2 gets the same way with repeated gameplay.
95% of most problems are minor and user related.

OK - let me expand upon what I had posted earlier:

    1. I have the following DVD players/recorders: JVC XV-NP10, JVC XV-N44, Toshiba D-KR2, Toshiba SD-3109, Panasonic DMR-E30, Pioneer DV-500 - and all are having problems with the old Riteks
    2. Other movies play fine on them - no problems
    3. I regulary clean all of my players
    4. No, I did not bother to play them in my burner - I have no intention of sitting in front of my PC for 1 1/2 hours to watch a cartoon - I'll just redo it
    5. So far, I've come across 6 disks with problems - out of around 200 or so that I've burned using these disks
    6. These disks were burned at 2X - way back then

    In a nutshell, it's not my players - it's the disks.[/b]

  9. I've had similar problems with some Princo discs that I tested immediately after burning and stored properly, have zero scratches, although certain people on here will claim that what has happened to us and many others is impossible. It's not really worth debating for me, I've got firsthand proof of it.
