    I tried to play my AVI file with Windows Media Player version 10.0 and it failed (wrong codec). How do I find found what codec is needed for my file?

    avi is a MS format and windows comes with its own avi splitter. As suggested though you are simply missing a codec and GSpot can tell you which one(s) so that you can install it. WMP10 should then work fine. I still wouldn't recommend using it though.
