Could someone tell me how to lock my computer and set up a password to open it so that others will not have access to it without the password? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

You can set a password in Windows but it not very secure if you using Windows 95 or Windows 98.

I have a password set in my BIOS. No body can do anything with out the password. You can't boot up from a floppy or anything else or enter SETUP mode until the password is entered. It is most secure.

But don't forget it! You can't use computer without it!

Check your BIOS SETUP to see if it let you set password.

  3. In Windows XP:
    'Start->Control Panel->User Accounts'
    Click on "Administrator"
    Click on "Change my password"
    Set the password
click on the "Home" button at the top
Click on "Change the way users log on or off"
Uncheck the box next to "Use the Welcome screen"
    Click "Apply Options"

When you turn it on it'll requre a password before it boots into Windows. You can also lock it when you leave your computer by pressing either:
    'ctrl'+'alt'+'delete' and then 'enter'
    or
    'windows key' + 'L'

If you want to be even more secure, your BIOS probably allows you to set a power-on password. You can usually access the BIOS by pressing 'delete' right when the computer comes on.

Wrong - remove the battery and viola PW is gone...

I see your using XP - just create a "user" and set permissions and you're done..

If you really thinking someone is taking you computer apart then you may want to lock the actual computer case so it not as easy to open.

If it easy to open up, all they have to do is remove the HD drive and hack the Windows password at their leisure.

There use to be kits to do this but I don't know where to find them now.

hack the harddrive? are you kidding?

all you do is pop the drive in to another computer and remove the security restrictions, takes a few minutes.
