  1. I tried the virtualdub-mpeg2 to do some editing with my mpeg-2 files and do not want to save them as AVI. I want to save them as MPEG-2. How can I do that?

    Thanks.

VirtualDub MPEG2 can read MPEG2 files, but cannot write them. However, you can frameserve to an MPEG2 encoder such as TMPGEnc or CCE.

I should also point out that image quality will deteriorate when reencoding MPEG2 to MPEG2. A better option would be to use an MPEG specific tool such as Womble MPEG-VCR or Womble MPEG Video Wizard, both of which are able to edit MPEG without reencoding.

  3. mpack is absolutely right about VirtualDub MPEG2.

There are a few more MPEG2 editing apps now than a while ago - have a look at the Basic Video Editors MPG page - there are a few free tools which can do some basic cutting etc..

Basically MPEG2 is not a good format for editing.

If you just want to cut and trim.... go try VideoReDo. Amazingly easy to use, no re-encoding so no lost quality, and so fast you'll be sure something isn't working right.

You can download and try it before deciding to buy.
