  1. I'm about to create an mp3 cd, and since i have never done it before, i'm gonna ask....my dvd supports mp3 cds, but i'm wondering, can u create folders, jus say, a folder for each mp3 album? and still be able to select on the dvd player?

  2. In my (not vast) experience, it varies from player to player, but generally yes.

As far as I remember, all the players (DVD and audio CD players) that I have used to play mp3s burnt as data to CD have ignored folder structures totally and just given a list of all the supported files on the disc.

So, in some ways there's not much point using the folders - I tend to just use filenames to organise the files into albums etc...

If you don't use filenames, it can be a bit confusing - e.g. if your files are just called '01 - First Song' etc.. you may get a list of all files on the disc sorted alphanumerically, regardless of folder structure (so all the files starting with '01' on the disc are listed before all the files starting '02'. etc..) so all your albums are jumbled up. Even if that's not the case, you might not see album/artist names at all if that info is only there in the folder names.

Some players are better at displaying id3 tags etc.. than others, and some players will only show you the first few characters of filenames. So it's really a case of trying it out (perhaps use a RW disc) and seeing what works best for the hardware you're going to use the disc(s) on.

There doesn't seem to be much of a standard in how mp3 files burnt as data are treated by players so your mileage may vary, as they say.

  3. Oh, by the way, I find mp3 Book Helper an invaluable tool for organising my mp3's - it's freeware, and it can do all sorts of clever things with filenames, ID3 tags etc.. and can access the freedb database, which saves a lot of time typing out track names etc..
